HEDP Scale Inhibitor
The scale inhibitor eMAI™ HEDP is an organophosphonic acid corrosion and scale inhibitor. Its molecular structure contains two phosphonic acid groups and dissociates into four positive and negative ions in water. It forms stable complexes with metal ions such as iron, copper, and zinc and can dissolve oxides on metal surfaces; it also chelates calcium ions to form six-membered-ring chelates with a good threshold effect, and offers good synergistic performance with polyphosphates, polycarboxylic acids, and nitrites. The product is structurally stable and highly temperature resistant—after 216 h at 250°C its hydrolysis rate is only 50%. It is also suitable for medium-to-high hardness and alkaline water qualities. Applications: Scale and corrosion inhibition for industrial circulating cooling water systems in power, chemical, metallurgical, and fertilizer industries, as well as medium- and low-pressure boilers, oilfield water injection, and oil pipelines. In light and textile industries: as a cleaning agent for metals and non-metals, a peroxide stabilizer and color-fixing agent in bleaching and dyeing, a complexing agent for cyanide-free electroplating, and a carrier for radioactive elements in pharmaceuticals. Suitable for severe-cold regions in winter; particularly suitable as a cleaning agent for the electronics industry and as an additive in household chemicals.
Overview and Applications
The series covers organophosphonic acids and salts that complex calcium, magnesium, iron, and other metal ions while suppressing scale-crystal growth. They serve circulating cooling water, boiler water, and oilfield injection systems and can be blended with polycarboxylates for added performance.
