DTPMPA Scale Inhibitor

The scale inhibitor eMAI™ DTPMPA is an organophosphonate scale inhibitor whose molecular structure contains multiple phosphonic acid groups and nitrogen atoms. It can dissociate into ten positive and negative ions in water, forming stable polydentate chelates with di- and trivalent metal ions; it can also induce lattice distortion in certain deposits, producing a threshold effect that effectively prevents scaling by sparingly soluble calcium and barium salts under high pH and high hardness conditions. Applications: Used as a scale and corrosion inhibitor for circulating cooling water and boiler water; particularly suitable as a no-pH-adjustment inhibitor in alkaline circulating cooling water. For treatment of oilfield reinjection water with high barium ion content. For scale and corrosion treatment of medium- and low-pressure boilers. For central air-conditioning water systems: prevents scaling in cooling towers and heat exchangers. Also used as a peroxide stabilizer (especially effective for hydrogen peroxide stabilization under high-temperature conditions), a chelating agent for textile dyeing and printing, a pigment dispersant, an oxygen delignification stabilizer, a trace-element carrier in fertilizers, and a concrete additive. Also widely applied in papermaking, electroplating, metal pickling, and cosmetics.

Overview and Applications

The series covers organophosphonic acids and salts that complex calcium, magnesium, iron, and other metal ions while suppressing scale-crystal growth. They serve circulating cooling water, boiler water, and oilfield injection systems and can be blended with polycarboxylates for added performance.
