Nonionic Surfactant Tween Series
The eMAI™ Tween Series nonionic surfactants are produced by ring-opening polymerization of sorbitan fatty acid esters (the Span Series) with ethylene oxide (EO). They offer strong hydrophilicity, excellent solubility, outstanding emulsifying and solubilizing capabilities, and chemical stability. The properties of Tween products depend mainly on the length of the attached fatty acid chain and the EO addition number: as the fatty acid carbon chain lengthens, the HLB value decreases slightly and hydrophobicity increases; as the EO chain lengthens, hydrophilicity increases.
Overview and Applications
The portfolio covers fatty-alcohol ethoxylates, isotridecyl and isodecyl alcohol ethoxylates, alkylphenol ethoxylates, sorbitan esters, and polyoxyethylene sorbitan derivatives. Grades can be selected by HLB and solubility for industrial cleaning, textiles, metalworking, coatings, agrochemicals, oilfield, and personal-care formulations.
