Nonionic Surfactant Span Series

The eMAI™ Span Series is a group of polyol-type nonionic surfactants produced by dehydration of sorbitol to sorbitan, followed by esterification with different fatty acids. They feature strong lipophilicity, poor water solubility, excellent emulsifying performance, high chemical stability, and resistance to acids, alkalis, and high temperatures. Their specific properties depend mainly on the type of fatty acid bound and the degree of esterification; as the fatty acid carbon chain lengthens or saturation changes, the HLB value, melting point, and physical form vary accordingly.

Overview and Applications

The portfolio covers fatty-alcohol ethoxylates, isotridecyl and isodecyl alcohol ethoxylates, alkylphenol ethoxylates, sorbitan esters, and polyoxyethylene sorbitan derivatives. Grades can be selected by HLB and solubility for industrial cleaning, textiles, metalworking, coatings, agrochemicals, oilfield, and personal-care formulations.
