PHMB Polyguanidine Biocide

eMAI™ PHMB (polyhexamethylene biguanide) is a polymeric biocide. Its highly active guanidine groups give the polymer a positive charge, allowing it to readily adsorb onto bacterial and viral surfaces, inhibiting their division and rendering them incapable of reproduction. It can also act on the phospholipid bilayer in the cytoplasm through transmembrane transport, binding with negatively charged phosphate groups to alter the selective permeability of the cell membrane and kill microorganisms. It provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial action that is safe, stable, non-corrosive, highly effective, and long-lasting. Applications: Medical and hygiene: Used for surgical hand disinfection and skin/mucous membrane cleansing; can also be formulated into wipes and feminine washes—effective against bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Food and drinking water: For disinfection of food processing equipment and pipelines, as well as sterilization and algae control in drinking water and swimming pools—low residue and safe. Industrial and aquaculture: Controls bacterial diseases of fish and shrimp in aquaculture; serves as an antimicrobial finishing agent in textiles and papermaking; also used in oil production and wastewater treatment. Daily-use products: Added to laundry detergents and shampoos for mildew and dandruff control, or used for air and surface disinfection in public places (e.g., vehicles, aircraft).

The range comprises CleaW50 clarifier and PHMB, PHMG, 1227, triazine BK, and C/MIT biocides. Together they provide flocculation, clarification, microbial control, and slime removal for oilfield produced water, industrial circulating water, petrochemical wastewater, and related process-water treatment.
