C/MIT Isothiazolinone Biocide
The eMAI™ C/MIT isothiazolinone biocide series is composed of 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one (CMIT) and/or 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one (MIT). It exerts its biocidal action by breaking the bonds of bacterial and algal proteins; upon contact with microorganisms, isothiazolinone rapidly and irreversibly inhibits their growth, leading to microbial cell death. It therefore has strong inhibitory and killing effects against common bacteria, fungi, and algae—a broad-spectrum, highly effective, low-toxicity, non-oxidizing biocide that simultaneously inhibits bacteria, fungi, and mold. It offers lower use-cost than other biocides on the market, excellent physical and chemical compatibility, usability over a very wide pH range, high stability even under alkaline conditions, and natural degradation into non-toxic substances without polluting the environment. Applications include wastewater treatment, iron and steel smelting, oilfield water injection, refineries, thermal power plants, large fertilizer plants, paper mills, light textiles, water-based coatings, industrial cleaning, household chemicals, papermaking, pesticides, and concrete admixtures.
Overview and Applications
The range comprises CleaW50 clarifier and PHMB, PHMG, 1227, triazine BK, and C/MIT biocides. Together they provide flocculation, clarification, microbial control, and slime removal for oilfield produced water, industrial circulating water, petrochemical wastewater, and related process-water treatment.
