Octadecyl Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride
eMAI™ 1827 (octadecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride) is a cationic quaternary ammonium surfactant produced by quaternization of octadecyl dimethyl tertiary amine with benzyl chloride. Compared with 1227, 1827 has a broader range of applications. Applications: Suitable for formulating softening conditioners, premium hair creams, hair conditioning softeners, hair dyes, and skin-care and cleansing products. Used as a leveling agent for cationic dyes in acrylic fiber dyeing, giving dyed fabrics a soft hand feel. Also used as a softening finishing agent for acetate fibers and as a biocidal disinfectant. Used as a leveling agent for cationic dyes in acrylic fiber dyeing, giving dyed fabrics a soft texture. Stable in nature; resistant to light, heat, and acids (but not alkalis); tolerant of hard water and inorganic salts; non-volatile.
Overview and Applications
Varying C12, C16, and C18 alkyl chains and benzyl/trimethyl headgroups tunes solubility, adsorption, and interfacial activity for industrial water treatment, textile softening and antistatic finishing, personal-care conditioning, disinfection, and oilfield or mineral-processing formulations.
