Dodecyl Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride
eMAI™ 1227 (dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride) is a cationic quaternary ammonium surfactant. It adsorbs strongly onto bacterial surfaces and denatures proteins to achieve biocidal action. It offers broad-spectrum, highly effective sterilization and algae control, effectively controlling bacterial and algal proliferation and slime growth in water, while also providing good slime-stripping action and certain dispersing and penetrating effects, as well as some degreasing, deodorizing, and corrosion-inhibiting capabilities. Applications: Industrial water treatment: Widely used in circulating cooling water systems in the petroleum, chemical, and power industries to control bacterial and algal growth—particularly effective against sulfate-reducing bacteria—and also suitable for oilfield water injection systems. Textile dyeing and printing: Used as a leveling agent, softener, and antistatic agent, making fibers fluffy and attractive while providing antimicrobial and anti-mildew protection for fabric storage. Medical and public disinfection: Suitable for sterilization and immersion disinfection in hygiene and medical fields, wound infection washing, medical instrument disinfection, and sanitary disinfection of swimming pools and public places. Other fields: Spray disinfection of grain warehouses and livestock/poultry housing, and preservation of pastes, gelatin, and photographic film.
Overview and Applications
Varying C12, C16, and C18 alkyl chains and benzyl/trimethyl headgroups tunes solubility, adsorption, and interfacial activity for industrial water treatment, textile softening and antistatic finishing, personal-care conditioning, disinfection, and oilfield or mineral-processing formulations.
