AA-AMPS Polycarboxylate Scale Inhibitor
eMAI™ AA-AMPS is an anionic polycarboxylate scale-inhibiting dispersant copolymerized from acrylic acid (AA) and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (AMPS). Its molecular structure combines carboxyl groups with strongly polar sulfonic acid groups, providing high calcium tolerance and effective scale inhibition and dispersion against calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, zinc hydroxide, and iron oxide—particularly under high-pH, high-alkalinity, and high-hardness water conditions. Applications include industrial circulating cooling water, oilfield reinjection water with high barium and sulfate content, medium- and low-pressure boiler water, reverse-osmosis and seawater-desalination systems, textile dye dispersion and anti-redeposition, and scale control in papermaking systems.
Overview and Applications
Through the combined action of carboxylate and sulfonate groups, AA-AMPS raises calcium tolerance and controls deposits such as calcium phosphate. It can be used alone in circulating cooling water, oilfield injection water, and textile-process water or blended with organophosphonates.
